Morecambe P.S. Competition Rules

(Revised following the April 2011 AGM)

At the discretion of the Competition Secretary, any submission not conforming to the following "Competition Rules" may be withdrawn.

General Rules

1. There’s no time limit on submissions, although more recent work is to be encouraged.

2. The maximum number of submissions for Competitions shall be decided each year, based upon anticipated numbers of entries/participants. These limits will be confirmed at the start of the season, but may be revised by the Competition Secretary, as and when deemed necessary, depending upon the actual numbers submitted.

3. No entries can be submitted for the Annual Competitions unless the author has already entered into at least two of the respective Monthly Competitions. (Exceptions will be made for new members who have joined part way through the season.)

4. Entries should be submitted by the dates specified in the Syllabus. Acceptance of late entries will be at the discretion of the Competition secretary.

5. Digital Images should be submitted on a CD, clearly marked with the Author’s name, and the relevant Competition title. All entries must be accompanied with a completed entry form.

6. Natural History images may not be entered into the Monthly Open competitions, but they may be entered into the Set Subject competitions if appropriate for the topic.

7. Restrictions on Resubmissions

7.1 No Image having been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a Monthly Competition shall be eligible for entry into any future Monthly Competition. They will however still be eligible for entry into a future Annual Competition.

7.2 Unplaced Images (or close variations) should not be entered more than twice in Monthly Competitions.

7.3 No image having been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the Annual Competition shall be eligible for entry into any further Competition except for in the "Annual Folios", "Twelve Image Story/Theme" and the "A/V Competition".

7.4 No image is eligible for entry into more than one Annual Competition, except for automatic entry into the relevant Portraiture, Best Colour and Best Mono. Image of the Year Competitions.

8. Image Format: (excluding the "One Print Competitions" which will require conventional printed picture. Mounting is optional).

In Order to facilitate digital projection on the presentation night, all entries should be submitted in "Digital Image" format. The file to be JPEG and sRGB, with Maxi Quality (12). (nb The resolution is unimportant, for projection purposes).

The file dimensions should be exactly 1024x 768 pixels, with a max. Height of 768 pixels. If the actual image is less than maximum in any direction, the unused area should be filled with black. Any oversized files submitted will be cropped or rejected.

Alternative Traditional Print Entries

As an interim measure, authors unable to provide Digital Files will be able to submit unmounted photographic prints instead, for digitalising by the competition coordinator or another member. These prints should be as near as possible to, but no larger than, 10 x 7.5 inches. When digitalised, any print of a smaller dimension will have a black border digitally added, to make it the same display size as the others. (If possible, authors without appropriate facilities should try to make arrangements with other members to digitalise their prints rather than overload the Competition Secretary.)
